Class by Melissa & Prize #8

Here's some fun answers about birthdays by Melissa:

What is your favorite birthday cake? My mom always made us a homemade Chocolate Buttermilk Double-Decker cake for our birthdays....so even if I have to make my own, my favorite still remains the cake my mom would spoil us with.

What was your most memorable birthday? My most memorable birthday was this past year when my husband broke ground on our new house.....such a sweet gift.

Do you like surprises? I LOVE surprises....but I also love to snoop....but when it comes right down to it.....I would rather be surprised than know what someone was planning for me.

How do you celebrate? I love to celebrate veeeeeerrry quietly....just my husband and little girl...no frills...no party...perhaps no cooking though :)

Melissa created a beautiful tabletop frame......enjoy!

Class by Anabelle & Prize Drawing #6

Here's some fun facts about Birthdays from Anabelle:

What is your favorite birthday cake? I love all kinds of cake. But, anything with chocolate and peanut butter would have to be my favorite!

What was your most memorable birthday? There have been a few birthdays that have stood out. I think my 38th birthday is probably one that I'll always remember. I was five days away from having my son, so I was as big as can be. My parents, husband and mother in law took me to dinner at my favorite restaurant. It was a really fun night and definitely the best "Birthday" gift I ever received! My birthday now is definitely overshadowed by his ;) No more big family dinners for me. It's all about his party. But, I wouldn't have it any other way!

Do you like surprises? I love surprises! But, I've never had a surprise party for me before.

How do you like to celebrate? With friends and family! Give me a great margarita, warm chips and salsa, lots of laughter and the people I love, and I'm a happy girl!

What is your favorite childhood birthday memory?
Every year my mother would make me a great cake. She was always experimenting with different shapes and sizes. One year, she made a castle complete with green coconut grass, Peeps and jelly beans. (my birthday is often right around Easter) Those cakes were really special!

Anabelle created her class using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and Screens (click on photos for larger views)........Create something fun!

Here's the fifth question: What was the best present you've ever received?
-

Class by Jessica & Prize #4

Here's what Jessica had to say about birthdays.......

What is your favorite birthday cake? Anything with white icing and a ton of it! Not whipped icing.....I need the hard core sugar stuff! The cake itself is really only the delivery system for the icing, in my opinion.

What is your most memorable birthday? Number 29, two years ago. I woke up at 1:30am in labor and had baby Zeke at 8:30pm that night! Little stinker came 3 days late just so he could share my birthday! My goal for every birthday now is 1) to sleep, since I didn't get any that day!, 2) to not be in labor for 19 hours, and 3) to not have major surgery (c-section). I accomplished my goal last year and for see accomplishing it every birthday in the future.

Do you like surprises? I love, love, love to give surprises, but I am actually not a big fan of them myself. I used to search out all of my Christmas presents every year and tediously unwrap them, then wrap them back up.

How do you celebrate and my favorite present? My favorite thing to do for my birthday is go junking in Canton! For all you non-Texans out there, Canton is this huge outdoor antique/flea market and it is seriously like my *heaven*. Row after row after row of the best junk ever! My favorite finds include 2 old doors which we remade into a queen bed complete with headboard and footboard and which rivals Pottery Barn any day (for under $100 total!), 4 door antique school cabinet which serves as Zeke's closet (yeah, we had to take the whole thing apart, take it in the room, then put it all back together to fit it in there!), working traffic lights for Eli's room (Dad hooked them up to turn on and off with a "clicker"!)......I could go on an on! I come home dirty and smelly with a trunk full of treasures!

Jessica created a cool project with glitter for her class (click on the photos for larger views).......have fun!
Birthday Signs by Jessica Witty

Jessica says: I purchased the signs years ago at a local antiques & flea market for around 5 bucks. I have seen tons of them in varying sizes at lots of antique shops....keep your eye out and you are bound to run into some! I have several in varying sizes and I change them out for the seasons, holidays, etc. They are double sided so you can make a sign for the other side and use them as centerpieces, etc.

Instructions for Signs:

1. Cut 3 strips of cardstock to fit sentiment.
2. Stick letter sticker down, then trace around the outline with a fine point glue pen. Sprinkle with glitter and dump off excess. Repeat for each letter. ( I used a different brand, but the Martha Stewart Ultra-fine Ballpoint-tip Pen will work perfectly for this!)

3. Cut a piece of chipboard or cardstock to fit inside the sign.

4. Cover with dotted paper. Slide inside the tin.

5. Adhere ribbon to sign. Adhere sentiment strips with foam tape.

-

Class by Lisa & Prize Drawing #2

Here's some fun Birthday facts from Lisa:

What is your favorite birthday cake? Strawberry & Cream filled

What was our most memorable birthday?
All of our birthday parties growing up were family parties. On my 8th birthday though, my parents let me have a bunch of friends over for a birthday party. It is still the one party that I remember with clarity.

Do you like surprises?
Definitely!

How do you like to celebrate?
With my family. We have a birthday tradition of going to a Mexican restaurant in town that makes you wear a HUGE sombrero while they sing to you. The singing is followed by sopapillas. YUM!

Lisa created a fun Birthday Party set for you (click on photos for larger view).......Enjoy!

Prize #2 is posted below the class instructions, make sure to post your answer to the question for a chance to win the prize.

Birthday Banner, Thank You Gift Box & Invitation by Lisa Dorsey

Supplies Needed to complete this class:
Sweet Chips Chipboard Rectangle Album by Crafty Secrets
Urban Prairie Weather Vane Paper by Basic Grey
Prudence Discretion Pattern Paper by Crate Paper
Birthday Girl Dots/Aqua Paper by My Mind's Eye
Class Act Green Apple Die-Cut Paper by Art Warehouse
Framboise Pattern Paper by SEI

Paperie Greenhouse Trims by Making Memories
Tuxedo Paper Frills by Doodlebug Design Inc.
Bubblegum Craft Knife by Doodlebug Design
Scor-It 12.75" Board Scoring Tool
Scotch Pop-Up Foam Circles
Yellow and Black Cardstock

Instructions for Banner:
1. Cut each page from the Sweet Chips Album in half.

Lisa Notes: I just adore pattern paper. You will rarely see a project of mine that has less than two pieces of pattern paper on it. I know that combining pattern papers can be a little bit scary for some people. A good example of this would be the birthday banner I have made for this class. I used 5 different pattern papers for each section. A good way to ensure that the patterns don't overwhelm each other is by breaking them up with a contrasting color like I did with the black. Also keep in mind that you want to vary the sizes of the patterns. You do not want to put a bunch of really small patterns close together.
2. Trace the chipboard on the back of each pattern paper and cut out. Attach paper to the chipboard and ink the outside edges.
3. Using Word Art in Microsoft Word, print the outline of each letter in the word Birthday onto yellow cardstock. Cut out the letters allowing a bit of yellow around the outside of the letter. Attach to chipboard with pop dots.

4. Tie the individual pieces together with ribbon and attach a button using red baker's twine.
Instructions for Thank You Gift Box:

1. Trace the template (please email us for a copy) onto yellow cardstock and cut on the solid black lines. Score and fold on the dotted lines.

2. Cover the sides and flaps with pattern paper; ink the edges.

3. Cut a one inch strip of the pattern paper and mat in yellow. Cut the edges with decorative scissors; attach to the front of the box.

4. Print an oval that is slightly larger than the sentiment onto pattern paper. Stamp the sentiment inside the oval; cut out oval and attach to the front of the box using pop dots.

5. Tie the box shut with ribbon; attach button with baker's twine.
Instructions for Invitation:

1. Create a card that measures 5.25" x 4" out of black cardstock.

2. Cut a piece of yellow paper that is slight smaller than the card. Cut a piece of blue paper with decorative scissors and attach to the bottom of the yellow cardstock.

3. Cut a piece of pattern paper to measure 4" x 3"; ink edges. Layer a strip of Basic Grey paper over the top.

4. Machine stitch the yellow onto the card and tie ribbon around the bottom of card.

5. Use one of the tags from the chipboard album and create sentiment tag; ink edges and add red brads.

Fun Birthday Fact: The birthday game Pin the tail on the Donkey has been traced back to 1887.
