Meet Tania Willis

We are thrilled to have Tania Willis with us as January's Guest Designer! Check out her amazing creative space below and don't forget to welcome Tania on this thread for a chance to win her Favorite Things that she handpicked from the store just for one lucky person! Winner will be picked by random number generator and announced on January 16th.

Meet Tania:

More than a few days without being creative or creating some form of artwork and I get ants in my pants. The creative itch, I like to call it. Once you get to know me, you’ll see that I scream Type A personality and I’m a bit obsessive-compulsive. Which means I can’t sit still. My hands have to be constantly busy. So scrapbooking fits well!

My preferred approach to scrapbooking memories is to use everyday pictures of my children and add something unexpected in the journaling. I love texture and dimension and lots of layers and will rarely call a page complete unless it has just a touch of handmade added into the mix. Most often it comes in the form of hand stitching on my pages. Call it my signature, if you will. I’ve been teaching and writing in some form or another for the past 8 years.

I have had the pleasure of writing scrapbook idea books and currently have 3 titles in print: “Circle Journals”, “Pens and Needles” and “Go Figure: Scrapbooking with Numbers”, all published through Pinecone Press, and the last two co-authored with Cindy Smith. I am currently doing freelance design work for Daisy Ds, Karen Foster Design and Little Yellow Bicycle.

We call Columbus, Ohio home where I reside with my 3 kids (one BIG kid and 2 littles). I’ve been married to the big kid for 13 years---he’s the most adoring father I could have ever dreamed of for my 2 spunky little princesses---Ashlyn Rose, 7, and Emma Grace, 4. Random Fact #1: I totally loathe shopping *gasp*. Random Fact #2: I LOVE peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches. Before you say ewwwwwwwwww, I dare you to try it, even once! You might well like it. Random Fact #3: I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do (but I’m quite out of practice).

Instructions:

1. Add lip gloss to tin. See recipe below.
2. Sand top of tin to help paint adhere easier. Paint with white paint and allow to dry.
3. Add run-ons to top of tin.

Card Instructions:

1. Make top fold card from white cardstock.
2. Add bird and sentiments rub-ons.
3. Cut strip of Striped paper and add to bottom; embellish with ribbon.

To make lip gloss: I looked for a recipe that did not require a lot of specialized ingredients so that I could use what I had on hand. I ended up coming up with my own recipe using only Aquaphor Healing Ointment and a bit of Crystal Lite drink flavoring. I just heated the Aquaphor in the microwave for about 30 seconds, then stirred in some of the drink mix for color and flavor. Then I just poured the gloss into the tin. The tin has tiny holes in the back side for the hinges, so just be sure to stop pouring once the gloss gets near that spot. The gloss will harden back up a bit so the holes in the tin will not be an issue.
