Here's what Jessica had to say about birthdays.......
What is your favorite birthday cake? Anything with white icing and a ton of it! Not whipped icing.....I need the hard core sugar stuff! The cake itself is really only the delivery system for the icing, in my opinion.
What is your most memorable birthday? Number 29, two years ago. I woke up at 1:30am in labor and had baby Zeke at 8:30pm that night! Little stinker came 3 days late just so he could share my birthday! My goal for every birthday now is 1) to sleep, since I didn't get any that day!, 2) to not be in labor for 19 hours, and 3) to not have major surgery (c-section). I accomplished my goal last year and for see accomplishing it every birthday in the future.
Do you like surprises? I love, love, love to give surprises, but I am actually not a big fan of them myself. I used to search out all of my Christmas presents every year and tediously unwrap them, then wrap them back up.
How do you celebrate and my favorite present? My favorite thing to do for my birthday is go junking in Canton! For all you non-Texans out there, Canton is this huge outdoor antique/flea market and it is seriously like my *heaven*. Row after row after row of the best junk ever! My favorite finds include 2 old doors which we remade into a queen bed complete with headboard and footboard and which rivals Pottery Barn any day (for under $100 total!), 4 door antique school cabinet which serves as Zeke's closet (yeah, we had to take the whole thing apart, take it in the room, then put it all back together to fit it in there!), working traffic lights for Eli's room (Dad hooked them up to turn on and off with a "clicker"!)......I could go on an on! I come home dirty and smelly with a trunk full of treasures!
Jessica created a cool project with glitter for her class (click on the photos for larger views).......have fun!
Birthday Signs by Jessica Witty
Jessica says: I purchased the signs years ago at a local antiques & flea market for around 5 bucks. I have seen tons of them in varying sizes at lots of antique shops....keep your eye out and you are bound to run into some! I have several in varying sizes and I change them out for the seasons, holidays, etc. They are double sided so you can make a sign for the other side and use them as centerpieces, etc.

Instructions for Signs:
1. Cut 3 strips of cardstock to fit sentiment.
2. Stick letter sticker down, then trace around the outline with a fine point glue pen. Sprinkle with glitter and dump off excess. Repeat for each letter. ( I used a different brand, but the Martha Stewart Ultra-fine Ballpoint-tip Pen will work perfectly for this!)
3. Cut a piece of chipboard or cardstock to fit inside the sign.
4. Cover with dotted paper. Slide inside the tin.
5. Adhere ribbon to sign. Adhere sentiment strips with foam tape.
6. Adhere dew drops and stickers. (Tip: Make tiny cuts between the little triangle banners to allow the banner curve.)
Fun Birthday Fact: The tradition of birthday parties started in Germany and were called Kinderfests. They were only for Kings who were thought important enough to have a birthday.

I would say this past one. I turned 29 in January...and along with it we made a big life decision. My husband purchased me a gorgeous diamond necklace to commemorate the decision, so we would always remember it. He is an awesome hubby!

My most memorable birthday was probably my 24th. My boyfriend (now husband) and I blew our tax returns and went to the Dominican Republic. The hotel provided me with a cake and everyone sang Happy Birthday, it was a memorable day. That was 15 years ago and now I'm wearing grannie underwear, a full figure bra and driving a mini van! :o) I wouldn't trade my 3 kids for anything though!
Happy Birthday to you!

My most memorable birthday really wasn't mine but rather one i gave my daughter. She was turning 18. I invited a few of her friends to meet us for a movie and cake n ice cream afterward. It was a surprisr party and she was REALLY surprised. I however cried because my baby girl was growing up. It was the best. thanks, ms.cheryl
I guess this year because it was just a few weeks ago! LOL My hubby took me out to my favorite Thai restaurant. Yum!
Most memorable birthday was the year my daughter was born. She was only two weeks old and I remember feeling so full of happiness and love. It was like I had everything I needed or ever wanted.
again, when my mom and step dad flew in - I couldn't believe they went to all the work to fly into town and not tell me - they even faked tickets when I called and told them about a good deal for coming to visit a month later! lol

My 40th, last year!
I was apprehensive before the "big day" and then had a fun party to celebrate. Now I can't figure out what I was worried about!!!
My most memorable birthday was when I turned 21 and had an 80's skating party at our skating rink!
My 18th birthday. I was in love, out of high school, and everything was fresh with possibility.
My best memory was when I turned 10 my best friend came to spend the night and it snowed so bad that she was stuck at my house for 4 days!! That was great because I have 7 brothers! :Kathy

I guess it was when my husband and daughter gave me a surprise dinner and invited my best friends.
I am not really sure I have one that I remember more than the rest. I had a really nice 30th this year, so I will probably remember this one for a long time!
2 years after I moved into a new house a great friend from my old neighbourhood(that I haven't seen since I moved) sent me flowers....it was so unexpected, made me cry!
I am not sure, i just don't remeber which one.
But I hope my next birthday (50) is special!
Love
Marcia
My 10th birthday because I had a sleepover with my best friends and we stayed up and roasted marshmallows in the fireplace. My mom made the coolest cake - she did an ice skating scene on the top of my cake! It was awesome!
I love all birthdays. When you get to be my age you are happy to see another one LOL.
I can't think of just one, all birtdays are memorable!
30 was a great year-- although I didn't do anything spectacular to celebrate it-- I spent it with my hubby and we mapped out our plans for the following year-- a new home and baby--which has all happily come to fruition.
I would say every birthday since I met my husband. He is very thoughtful and generous :)
I turned 21 whilst travelling and we were in Ireland...I'll never forget that night because we spalshed out and stayed in a romantic hotel...(or so we thought at the time).....I loved the sounds and smells of being in a different country it was all so exciting...oh those were the days!!
16th birthday since I can't remember any other ones, it was my golden birthday.

My 40th, without a doubt. We still talk about it today. My friends had so much fun, they wanted me to make it a yearly tradition. However, I think I may have to do a repeat this year for my 50th. (yipes, I can't believe I'm turning 50 this year!)
