Here's the ninth question: Do you make your birthday cards or do you run out of time, (like me...although I always have good intentions to make them) and rush to Hallmark?

I'm on a roll... I've made lots of birthday cards recently, and haven't had to buy one for about a year!

Since few years, I do all the birthdays cards and more.. so Hallmark it's not for me!!!

most part I make them. Unless in a time crunch and can't produce one in time for the event.

I always make them! People seem to notice if I don't give them a handmade card, so now I keep a few made in advance for those emergency moments! I love making them!

I try to make the birthday cards that I give to others.

I make them. I usually make several at a time so I always have an extra in an emergency.

Oh NO! I haven't turned to Hallmark for years since I started making my own cards - it would feel so wrong!

i make all of mine too :)

Every year I always have good intentions of making homemade cards but often fall short and never make as many as I would like. It is never to late to start...lets hope this is the year. Lots of great inspiration on your website. Thanks for a chance to win.

I buy the supplies to make the cards then i run out of time. I bought some really pretty purple paper to make my mom a card and it's stored away for the next time i need to make a card for my mom. I end up buying cards and i hate it. I hereby vow to make my own cards from now on! thanks,ms.cheryl

HI!

I make EVERY card! I started that as my resolution for 2008 and I love it - any card that needs to be mailed is made my me :)

I try very hard to make a homemade card. If I don't have one on hand, I can usually throw something together last minute.

Honestly a lot of the time, I forget and have to go to Hallmark!

I always intend to make homemade cards, but unfortunately I procrastinate and then "homemade" actually ends up being home-printed from my BlueMountain American Greetings account hehe

I have been purchasing some fun new tools and supplies recently though, so that will make making homemade cards more fun, and soon I want to have a card crop with some friends and try to get a stash put together for when we need them!

I make mine. I keep a bunch of extras as well, so in case I run out of time to make one - I just grab one I've made before. :)

I always try to make them but usually run out at the last minute and buy one.

I love to make my own cards but often run out of time and go to hallmark!!

I almost always make my own birthday cards now. Thanks for the chance to win all these crafting goodies! :)

I love Hallmark but I make my own cards. (its cheaper and they are more special!)

Karen said...

I haven't purchased a birthday card in at least 15 years. I have 50+ neices and nephews to send to. I prefer to think that it is cheaper if I make a card. Ha Ha.

I made a promise to myself that since my craft room was finally complete I would make everyones card. I would not buy a card this year. Going strong so far!

I am getting pretty good at having a stash of cards on hand, so I'm usually good to go :)

It's about 50/50. Sometimes I am actually able to plan ahead, and sometimes I make the last minute run to Hallmark!

tas said...

I try to make them all by myself.

Samantha said...

I have made them all for over ten years! i think I have saved money.....maybe not

I make my own. I don't think my family and friends would accept a store bought card! ha ha They look forward to it and often ask me to make them some.

Harley Dee said...

I like to do both, but I will confess that I buy more than I make. Just because everyone in my family loves really funny cards, so I usually give the handmade ones to scrapbook friends. They appreciate them more anyway :)

if i am going to give a card . . . i make them. if i don't have time to make the card . . . they don't get one . . . LOL!!! i try to plan ahead . . . usually stay up late the night before to make the card . . . or make it later and send it late . . . as i am doing with the card i am making today. :-0

I have to make all my cards - birthday, holidays, etc...to justify all the money I spend on "STUFF"....I have not bought a card in 5 years!! Good, girl, huh?

Kathy W said...

I always make my cards, even if the person gets them two months late! I love the process and thought that go into them...I'll never buy another store manufactured card again.

Jessica said...

I always make my own cards. They're more personal that way! People are always surprised that they are homemade.

Tricia said...

It depends - I'm trying to make a birthday card for each child in my classroom this year.

Trace Geworsky said...

Im blushing as I type this..I make tons of cards, but never give them away in case they get published..then when they dont(which is always..lol) I have them sitting around getting dusty because I forget to hand them out.

Teresa Young said...

I make my cards and sometimes I am done to the wire to finish and get in the mail in time for them to be mailed. I just decided a couple years ago, nothing is more special than receiving a card made just for you and you in mind!

SueB said...

For the most part I've been making them the last few years or so ... at least for close friends and family!

Ruth Philps said...

*blush* cough-cough I buy them......I'm far too busy scrapbooking to make cards!!! Well thats the excuse I use but it's pathetic really because I should make them.

almadr said...

Most of the time I make my cards, but this month I've been a bit out of time and had to send some ecards and tomorrow I'm goint to make a real ones to send out.

I'm happy to say that I have made all of my cards for several years now. If it were up to me, hallmark would sadly be out of business. :-)

McMcKenzie said...

I always have good intentions and then it just depends what is going on. 50-50 split on whether I make or buy! ;0)

Elise said...

I keep a supply of handmade & a few store-purchased also... just in case! However, I try to buy store cards that I can add a last minute sticker, stamp, or button embellishment to--at the very least I'll do something pretty on the envelope!

Cindy Vernon said...

I always have a stash ready but it's the odd ones, like little boys birthday that usually throw me for a loop, so I'm making one the 11th hour!

Birgit said...

I always make them!

MichelleB said...

I'm about 50/50 for this question. You would think I'd be better prepared since birthday's don't change from year to year, but somehow I always miss some.

Bonnie said...

I always make my cards now! I think my hubby might have something to say about that lol!!

Shawninaz said...

For the last 5 years or so I've made all of my birthday cards. Keeps me from feeling so guilty about spending money on supplies.

Jenny said...

I make them! I haven't been to a store to buy a card in years!

Romaine said...

I make them-most often they end up being late, even if I am prepared and actually have them ready ahead of time!
This has been so fun!! Thanks so much and Happy Birthday Emma's Paperie! I have been watching you since you "opened"!! Thanks for all the ideas this past year!

Sara said...

I do try to make them, but often times they are so last minute that I am a little embarrassed to give them away. This year I am trying to build a birthday stack. So far I have a good handful!

Janelle said...

I have a large stash of Hallmark cards that I purchased -- then I started making cards. So I guess I have a real mix, but now I'm tending more toward the handmade ones.

Sheila D said...

I always run out of time. I love making cards and I try to be prepared...but it just doesn't work out that way. My New Years resolution was to make all my cards this year. I must admit that I have bought 2 and I made 1.

Lisa Hjulberg said...

Both. I really do try to make my cards, but there have been times when I've broken down and bought a Hallmark card, filled it out right then and there, addressed it, stamped and mailed it all in one stop. Then I remind myself to get with it next time!!! LOL

SmilynStef said...

At the beginning of each month, I look ahead to the birthdays for the next six weeks and make cards specifically for each person. That's the favorite thing about making cards is making them special for the recipient.

I have a stash handy! I would feel horrible buying a card knowing I can create a special one!
