We surprised my mom for her 60th bday by bringing her cousins over from brazil to celebrate for a week. She was so surprised! They hadn't seen each other in over 5 years.

My moms bday is usually around mothers day, so my sis and I took her away for the weekend all expenses paid-hotel, pedi, meals out and shopping!

One year I took my little girl (she was about two at the time) and flew to SC for my mom's birthday. Since we live 850 miles apart, it was a nice birthday surprise for her to see her only granddaughter on her birthday.

A surprise party for my mom that had 50 guests at a swanky restaurant. Well, it was actually me, my sister, and my brother that did it, but oh my, it was SO worth it.

...hmmm....for my husband's 50th, I had friends and family all send e-mail greetings to him along with a funny story about him. I intended to make a scrapbook with all of these in it........he is about to turn 51, and I'm just gathering ideas for some of the pages....better late than never? At least he has read all of the greetings!

My neighbor had a tough year; on her bday I planted an indoor mini-garden box with 24 flowering bulbs of all varieties. She smiled for the first time in months.

I think it would be the time I purchased a hot air balloon ride for my DH (and I called the balloon operator a bit later and switched it to a ride for 2 ... what had I been THINKING?!) for Christmas. I slipped the certificate under a glass blown hot air balloon that I'd purchased at an art fair that summer and kept hidden 'til Christmas. We ended up making the hot air balloon ride the following summer to celebrate our anniversary, complete w champagne.

My mom's birthday was last night. She thought just my husband, myself, and my kids were going to be there for dinner, but I got a hold of both of my brothers and they came in from out of town to surprise her. We had a great time together and she seemed really happy to have everyone in one place.

I surprised my Mom at an 80th birthday dinner in her honor. She didn't think I was going to be able to come.
During the dinner, my Mom excused herself to use the restroom. She was wearing a reversible dress, and switched it to see if anybody would notice! Pretty spry at 80! Monday is her birthday, and she will be turning 88. I don't get to be there on her birthday (couldn't get time off from work), but I'm going to spend a few days with her the following week when I have my vacation.
This has been great fun on your blog! Thanks for some chances to win some fantastic prizes!

I don't know about the 'nicest' but I just has my siblings and parents over for lunch today - to celebrate my mom's birthday. We had lasagna, grilled chicken breasts, tuscan style salad and cake and other desserts. So - that may not be the 'nicest' but definitely the most recent. (((grin)))
Cindy - I forgot to mention on the last post - I LOVE seeing your creations on here. I miss seeing your work. ;)

My kids love our little tradition of going to Cold Stone Creamery for their *free* birthday cone... a much anticipated event!

When my husband turned 50, I wrote 50 reasons I love him on post-it notes and hid them around the house, his car, golf bag, clothes pockets, etc. He was still finding them nearly a year later. Actually, I don't think he ever found a few -- they probably went to Goodwill in the pockets of some clothes he got tired of.

Took my nieces (twin girls) separately to Joanns to pick out trim, etc & for ice cream treats after- then decorated jeans with what they'd each picked! It was totally fun & great to spend time with each of them separately (they rarely have that opportunity!)...

I pay attention to what my friends like and then I start collecting inexpensive items throughout the year for a gift basket. I like to keep the colors coordinated and I often stick with a theme. Once the cellophane wrap and big bow are added, the gift looks great and there are oohs and ahhs every time.

I take my Mom out to lunch every year to a restaurant that she picks out. Then we go somewhere else for dessert. She loves it.

One of the nicest birthday surprises I did for a friend was to take her out to dinner, a night at the hotel/spa, and shopping the next day. We both were new, first time moms together and after a year of very little 'me' time it was nice for us to get away as moms/friends.

When my hubby turned 40 we had a surprise party for him.

Since my son and daughter share the same birthday, we have to split the day and do something fun for both of them. Once we told them I was going shopping (out of town) but instead went to a Fun kids place with games, rides, prizes and they had a blast! and then they picked a place to eat.

Gave my Grandma a big Birthday party when she turned 80 and every year after. We invite all the relatives and have it at my house. She lived to be 94.
